Debt Ceiling… 6 Days.

Our company doesn’t accept clients that might be whiners.  (Yes, really.  We have rules.)  Our rationale is that sometimes, we should win a contract award and we don’t.  It happens.  We can spend endless hours proving ourselves right and STILL not get revenue out of it, or we can move on to the next solicitation.  In our opinion, there is more ROI getting over ourselves and moving on.  Hence, our no whining rule.

That first paragraph was a disclaimer.  This post is not intended to be whining.

Politics is inherent in procurement.  It just is.  But today, it’s bugging me because it seems like our elected officials are making a joke out of a serious issue.

Today, while doing my 5:00 a.m. trolling of online news regarding the debt ceiling progress (or lack of progress), I stumbled on President Obama’s site where you can “stand with him” on the debt ceiling talks.  This is freaking brilliant.  Annoying, but brilliant.

Because I rely upon Taegan Goddard’s Political Wire for great snapshots of random happenings in DC, I know that the House GOP reportedly used a video clip from a Ben Affleck movie to rally support.  This proves they have a sense of humor, but a twisted one.  (Apparently, the clip immediately precedes a person being badly beaten.)

In one of the funnier articles I found, TPMDC describes the debt ceiling as a “Civil War” divisive issue within the GOP.

So, Wall Street is described as “scrambling” and federal contractors will get hosed.  Because without federal workers, federal contractors don’t get contract awards and don’t get paid.  Even private construction projects that rely upon EPA permitting could be held up.

The good news is that you’ll still get mail.  The postal service is not affected since it is self-sufficient.

Come on, elected leaders.  LEAD.
